Sigeum was located near a promontory at the entrance of the Hellespont. This place was supposed to have hosted the tomb of Achilles. Colony wind, it was often disputed between Athens and Mytilene. Sigeum Hippias received after leaving Athens. She joined the Delian League. Governed by Chares, Athenian general, the latter received Alexander the Great in the city during his visit in 334 BC.
