Exemplaire sur un petit flan irrégulier bien centré avec les grènetis visibles. Belle tête de Tatius. Revers particulièrement bien venu à la frappe. Patine de collection ancienne avec des reflets dorés

Obverse description : Tête nue et barbue de Tatius à droite ; une palme sous le menton.

Reverse description : Tarpeia agenouillée de face entre deux soldats qui lui jettent leurs boucliers ; au-dessus, une étoile placée au-dessus d’un croissant.
Reverse translation : “Lucius Titurius”, (Lucius Titurius).

Commentary


Le revers commémore l’exécution de Tarpeia. Pour ce type, M. Crawford a relevé une estimation de 294 coins de droit et de 327 coins de revers. Ce type de la mort de Tarpeia semble moins courant que celui de l’enlèvement des Sabines.

TITURIA

(89 BC) Lucius Titurius Sabinus

Marsique the war began after the revolt Asculum late 91 BC The people of Picenium, Samnium and Apulia rebelled against the authority of Rome and the injustice of the Senate. Rome refused to give citizenship to allied Italian cities which revolted in 90 BC, forming the Confederation of Marsi, composed of eight people in central Italy. They chose a capital Corfinium, they renamed Italia. This is the beginning of the Social War. The Senate granted the right of citizenship to some allies to try to break the League, but the following year, Rome was shaken, beaten consuls. Lucius Porcius Cato was killed fighting the Italians. Sulla in 89 BC, won the victory of Nola in Campania on the coalition and took Bovianum in Samnium, seat assemblies allies. He received the title of "Felix" (Happy). The death of Pomponius Silo and leniency towards Rome revolted cities ended the Social War in 88 BC.
