Historical background

THESSALY - PHERRABIA

(5th - 3rd century BC)

The Perrhabians were a tribe of Aeolian origin, established in Epirus and Macedonia. They were allies of the Persians during the Persian Wars. They were tributaries of Thessaly, Larissa and Pherai. Their territory was incorporated into Macedonia during the Third Sacred War (356-346 BC). Their freedom was proclaimed by Flaminius after the Macedonian war against Philip V. After the defeat of Pydna, Perrheboi was integrated into the Thessalian league before becoming part of the Roman province of Macedonia.
