Historical background

TAURIC CHERSONESE - CHERRONESOS

(4th - 3rd century BC).

Cherronesos was located on the Black Sea not far from modern Sevastopol. It was a colony of Heraclea Ponticus. The city was integrated into the kingdom of Pontus by Mithridates VI of Pontus. His fate was linked to that of the king before the region was occupied by the Romans.
