SYRIA - Seleucid Kingdom - CLEOPATRA THEA and ANTIOCHUS VIII grypus
Cleopatra is the daughter of Ptolemy VI Philometor (180-145 BC) and Cleopatra, his sister. She married Alexander I Balas successively (150-145 BC), and Demetrius II (145-140 and 129-125 BC), finally Antiochus VII (138-129 BC - C.). She had a total of eight children with these three kings. After the death of Demetrius II Nicator, his eldest son, Seleucus V, succeeded him, but was murdered at the instigation of his mother Cleopatra Thea. The second son of Demetrius and Cleopatra, Antiochus VIII Grypus then shared the supreme power with his mother. After four years of this, Cleopatra tried to get rid of her offspring. Antiochus forced his mother to take the poison she intended him.
