SWITZERLAND - REPUBLIC OF BERNE

(1353-1798)

Berne join the Reformation in 1528. It supports Geneva against the Duke of Savoy and occupies the country of Vaud in 1536. The government is in the hands of the patricians. Conspiracy Hentzi in 1749, democratic essence is drowned in blood. The French took the canton of Bern March 5, 1798.
