Commentary

La bataille de Morat est une victoire des Suisses, alliés de Louis XI, sur Charles le Téméraire, le 22 juin 1476. Cette défaite se révèle catastrophique pour Charles le Téméraire, qui perd alors presque toute son armée, une bonne partie de ses richesses (vaisselle en argent, tapisseries rares, soieries coûteuses) et son prestige. Peu après cette défaite majeure, Charles le Téméraire met le siège devant Nancy, avec l'espoir de s'emparer de la Lorraine, trait d'union entre la Bourgogne proprement dite et les possessions du Téméraire en Flandre, Zélande, Brabant etc.

Cette médaille a été frappée 345 ans après la bataille de Morat.
The Battle of Murten was a victory of the Swiss, allies of Louis XI, over Charles the Bold, on June 22, 1476. This defeat proved catastrophic for Charles the Bold, who lost almost his entire army, a good part of his wealth (silver tableware, rare tapestries, expensive silks) and his prestige.
