SWITZERLAND - CONFEDERATION OF HELVETIA - CANTON OF SCHAFFHAUSEN
At the fall of the old regime caused by the invasion of Switzerland by French troops, Schaffhausen became a member of the Helvetic Republic and, in 1803, a canton in the new Helvetic Confederation. The first cantonal constitution, which comes into force on this occasion, grants a preponderant influence of the city on the canton. This same year sees the attachment of Stein-am-Rhein to the canton.
