Commentary

2ème pièce de 2 Euro commémorative circulante de la Slovaquie en 2009 après la 2 Euro “10 ans de l’Euro”. Les clés figurant sur l’avers de la pièce symbolisent le bruit des clés qu’agitaient les tchèques et les slovaques descendus dans la rue le 17 novembre 1989 pour demander symboliquement l’ouverture de la porte du rideau de fer et l’accès à la liberté et à la démocratie. Cet événement marqua le début de la Révolution de velours qui se déroula du 16 novembre au 29 décembre 1989. Ces événements aboutirent à la chute du régime communiste et quelques mois plus tard à la la fin de la République socialiste tchécoslovaque.
2nd circulating commemorative 2 Euro coin from Slovakia in 2009 after the 2 Euro “10 years of the Euro”. The keys on the obverse of the coin symbolize the sound of the keys that the Czechs and Slovaks shook when they took to the streets on November 17, 1989, symbolically demanding the opening of the Iron Curtain and access to freedom and democracy. This event marked the beginning of the Velvet Revolution, which took place from November 16 to December 29, 1989. These events led to the fall of the communist regime and a few months later to the end of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic.
