Historical background

SIEGE OF PALMANOVA

(1814)

Palma Nova was a citadel located south of Udine in Veneto, not far from the Gulf of Trieste at the gates of Istria and the Illyrian provinces. Austrian possession, its territory was ceded to France by the Treaty of Presburg on December 26, 1805. The coins of Palma Nova were minted by the French besieged by the Austrians in 1814. Palma Nova was returned to Austria by the first Treaty of Paris of May 30, 1814.
