Obverse legend : INSCRIPTION PUNIQUE À L'EXERGUE (RSMLQRT).

Obverse description : Quadrige galopant à droite, conduit par un aurige, tenant le rênes et le kentron, couronné par une Niké volant à gauche ; ligne d'exergue.

Reverse

Reverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.

Reverse description : Tête féminine (Tanit) à droite, les cheveux tirés en arrière avec couronne d'épis, boucle d'oreille et collier, entourée de quatre dauphins.

Commentary

Mêmes coins que l’exemplaire du British Museum (BMC. 15) et que celui de l’American Numismatic Society (ANS. 732). Ce type est parfois attribué à l’atelier carthaginois de Panorme (ANS).

The attribution of the Punic imitations of the Syracusan coinage to Cephaloedium is not certain because Selinunte and Panorme, among other towns in Sicily, also attract attention. According to some authors, these tetradrachms were only minted between 409 and 396 BC. After this date, Hieron of Syracuse took over these cities from the Carthaginians.
