Commentary

Sur notre exemplaire, nous avons un épi. L’ethnique se trouve au revers et à l’exergue. Le revers est très proche des petits bronzes de Marseille au taureau chargeant. Le monogramme du revers se retrouve sur de nombreux bronzes de la même période et aussi sur le monnayage d’argent d’Agathoklès. Ce type semble plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux. C’est la première fois que nous le proposons à la vente.
On our example, we have a cob. The ethnic is found on the reverse and in the exergue. The reverse is very close to the small bronzes of Marseille with the charging bull. The monogram on the reverse is found on numerous bronzes from the same period and also on the silver coinage of Agathokles. This type seems rarer than general works suggest. This is the first time we are offering it for sale.
