SICILY - Leontini

(Fifth century BC)

Leontini was founded in 729 BC by Chalcidians Naxos. From 480 BC, the city fell under the rule of Gelon, tyrant of Syracuse, and is influenced by Gela. The city was liberated in 466 BC by establishing democracy. The city was overwhelmed by Syracuse in 422 BC.
