SICILY - ALAISA

(Fourth - third century BC)

The city of Alaisa was founded in 403 BC on the north coast of Sicily. The city is distinguished from Alaisa near Etna and is named Archonidée. It was populated by mercenaries of Herbita came when the city was against Dionysius. The city then fell under the Carthaginian influence. Nevertheless Alaisa rallied quickly to Rome during the First Punic War and remained faithful during the Second Punic War. She remained free.
