Commentary
Thomas Bernard a utilisé un comput des Thierry différent de celui en usage actuellement.
Thierry IV (Theodoric) est né en 713 et est mort en 737, a été roi des Francs. Il a régné de 721 à 737.
À la mort de son père Dagobert III, en 715, il est enfermé à l'abbaye de Chelles, puis à Château-Thierry. Lorsque le roi Chilpéric II meurt sans héritier en 721, Charles Martel rappelle Thierry IV, et l'installe sur le trône. Cependant, pendant tout son règne, Charles Martel continue de détenir la réalité du pouvoir exécutif et législatif en tant que maire du palais. Thierry IV ne participa à aucune des batailles pour la défense des frontières de l'empire.
Après sa mort en 737, le trône du royaume des Francs reste vacant jusqu'en 743. Pépin le Bref y installe ensuite Childéric III, le dernier roi mérovingien.

Upon the death of his father, Dagobert III, in 715, he was imprisoned in the Abbey of Chelles, then in Château-Thierry. When King Chilpéric II died without an heir in 721, Charles Martel recalled Thierry IV and installed him on the throne. However, throughout his reign, Charles Martel continued to hold the real executive and legislative power as Mayor of the Palace. Thierry IV did not participate in any of the battles defending the empire's borders. After his death in 737, the throne of the Kingdom of the Franks remained vacant until 743. Pepin the Short then installed Childeric III, the last Merovingian king, on it. Historical background
METALLIC SERIES OF THE KINGS OF FRANCE
This series was engraved by Thomas Bernard and is interrupted, for this author, with the token of Louis XIV. The following tokens are engraved by Nicolas Gatteaux for Louis XV, Duvivier for Louis XVI, Puymaurin and Gayrard for Louis XVII, Puymaurin and Depaulis for Louis XVIII. The series is often attributed to Jean Dassier on the faith of Forrer but he corrects his assertion in his volume VIII and confirms the archives of the Monnaie de Paris which specify that the series was commissioned by Monsieur de Launay. There are different issues, in copper or brass, of varying weights but consistent by series, the reverse dies are sometimes varied. The classification of kings is done according to ancient usage, in three successive races. We note the existence of a very rare token explaining the abbreviations that we have only seen in a brass series. The packaging of this series was in a wooden tube. It is of course very difficult to reconstruct it and it should be noted that the different tokens have very different rarities, having probably been bought piecemeal by the public, favoring the good kings. There is at least one series in silver, possibly apocryphal, completed up to Napoleon III with tokens for all successive regimes, including the Revolution and Napoleon I, see MONNAIES 28, n° 1395.
