Flan court et relativement épais, avec un bel avers centré et presque complet. Revers un peu plus décentré. Frappe un peu faible avec une légère usure homogène. Patine grise de collection ancienne

Commentary


Sur cet exemplaire, la coiffure est clairement composées d’annelets pointés juxtaposés. Pour une monnaie de l’aire du denier, ce type est relativement rare par rapport aux TOGIRIX, Q.DOCI SAM.F ou autres KALETEDOY ! Il est très rare d’avoir l’épigraphie SEQVANOIOTVOS complète, les flans étant systématiquement de taille inférieure à celle des coins.

Sequanes (Region Besançon)

(Second - first century BC)

The Séquanes was one of the most important people of eastern Gaul. They were the enemies of the Aedui, their neighbors. Their territory was vast and stretched between the Saone, Rhone, Jura and Vosges. The Jura lakes separated the Helvetii. They were very strong in the third and second centuries BC, but had lost their pride after the Germans had occupied part of its territory to 70 BC They were neighbors Leuques the Lingons the Aedui and the Helvetii. Their main oppidum was Vesontio (Besançon). Cited several times by Caesar, during the campaign of 52 BC, they provided a contingent of 12,000 men for the army of relief. Caesar (Bg.
