Reverse description : Fortuna (la Fortune) drapée, debout à gauche, tenant un gouvernail posé sur un globe de la main droite et une corne d'abondance de la gauche ; à ses pieds, une roue.
Reverse translation : "Pontifex Maximus Tribunicia Potestate quartum Consul iterum Pater Patriæ" (Grand pontife, revêtu de la quatrième puissance tribunicienne consul pour la deuxième fois, père de la patrie).

Commentary

Rubans de type 3. Cuirasse formée d’écailles vue de trois quarts en arrière. Le pan de paludamentum est visible de chaque côté de l’épaule ce qui est inhabituel. Sur notre exemplaire, nous avons bien la roue derrière la Fortune. La huitième acclamation impériale est datée de l’été 196 après la chute de Byzance.

Septimius Severus was born in 146 in Leptis Magna in Africa (Libya). After a brilliant military career under the reigns of Marc Aurèle and Commodus, he was consul suffect in 185. At the time of Pertinax's death, he was governor of Upper Pannonia.
