Très bel exemplaire pour ce type de potin. Bonne coulée, tant au droit qu’au revers. Patine noire et brillante, légèrement marron au revers

Obverse description : Tête “d’indien” fortement stylisée à droite, les cheveux tirés en arrière ; l’œil est globulé ; oreille en demi-cercle sur la joue.

Reverse description : Cheval stylisé au pas à gauche, accosté de globules et d’un torque ; la queue du cheval est globulée à son extrémité.
Commentary
Le potin à la tête d'indien est très abondant, mais cet exemplaire présente la caractéristique inédite d'avoir un torque derrière le cheval ; le globule au-dessus du dos constitue l'extrémité d'une sorte de torque, qui passe derrière l'encolure pour rejoindre un autre globule devant la tête du cheval. Cette variété manque au nouvel ouvrage "Potins Celtes" qui recense la plupart des potins rares et inédits apparus ces dernières années. Exemplaire de poids lourd, avec ses 5,69 grammes.

SENONES (Area of Sens)
(2nd - 1st century BC)
The Sénons, whose name means the sages or the elders, controlled a vast territory which extended between the south of Champagne and the north of Burgundy. Their main oppidum was Agedincum (Sens) which still retains the name of the ancient civitas today. They had several other oppida like Auxerre, Tonnerre or Avallon. Divona seems to have been the principal sanctuary of the Senones. Caesar had wintered six of his legions in 53 BC at Agedincum. Labienus, Caesar's lieutenant and legate, came to settle in the region of Sens between Gergovie and Alesia in order to control the roads and protect Caesar's armies from an attack from the Belgians or the Germans.
