Obverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Obverse description : Tête “d’indien” fortement stylisée à droite, six mèches courtes de cheveux tirées en arrière, bouletées aux extrémités ; l’œil est globulé ; trace de l’oreille et des restes d’un torque sous le cou.

Reverse description : Cheval stylisé au pas à gauche, accosté de trois globules ; la queue du cheval est globulée, à son extrémité.
Commentary
Le grènetis linéaire est pratiquement complet au droit. Le portrait allongé est comme étiré, avec les mèches très en arrière, presque décollés de la boîte cranienne. Le nez est allongé aussi ; la bouche n’est figurée que par un globule ; l’oreille est pratiquement absente.
The linear graining is practically complete on the right. The reclining portrait is as if stretched, with the locks of hair set far back, almost detached from the skull. The nose is also elongated; the mouth is represented only by a globule; the ear is practically absent.

Historical background
SENONES (Area of Sens)
(2nd - 1st century BC)
The Sénons, whose name means the sages or the elders, controlled a vast territory which extended between the south of Champagne and the north of Burgundy. Their main oppidum was Agedincum (Sens) which still retains the name of the ancient civitas today. They had several other oppida like Auxerre, Tonnerre or Avallon. Divona seems to have been the principal sanctuary of the Senones. Caesar had wintered six of his legions in 53 BC at Agedincum. Labienus, Caesar's lieutenant and legate, came to settle in the region of Sens between Gergovie and Alesia in order to control the roads and protect Caesar's armies from an attack from the Belgians or the Germans.
