Historical background

(62 BC) Lucius Scribonius Libo

Scribonius Lucius Libo was a supporter of Pompey and his daughter married Sextus Pompey, the second son of Pompey the Great. Sent to Egypt in 56 BC to restore the throne Ptolemy XII Auletes (the flute player), he tried, in 49 BC, to delay between Caesar and Pompey in trying to negotiate a truce but Pompey fled to Greece with a part of the Senate. Scribonius commanded a part of the fleet of Pompey's defeat at Pharsalus. After Caesar's death, he still played a diplomatic role in the conflict between Octavian Mark Antony in the war of Perugia. Octave Scribonia married the daughter of Scribonius, allowing reconciliation of Sextus Pompey and Octavian in 39 BC, Octavian but divorced the following year to marry Livia. After the death of his son Sextus Pompey (35 BC), he was consul with Mark Antony in 34 BC.
