Commentary

Avec son argenture superficielle. Légende fautée au revers avec RQMAE au lieu de ROMA Ce type semble plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux.
With its superficial silver plating. Legend on the reverse incorrectly with RQMAE instead of ROMA. This type seems rarer than general works suggest.

Historical background

SALONINA

(+268)

Wife of Gallienus, mother of Valerian II and Saloninus - Augusta

Salonine, the wife of Gallien, seems to receive the title of augusta in 253, when her husband is associated with power by Valerian I. She loses at least two of her children, young Valérien and Salonin. She is murdered at the same time as her husband. Salonina is said to have had Christian sympathies.
