Splendide avers particulièrement complet, avec un revers un peu décentré. Patine de collection ancienne, avec de fines concrétions de surface au revers

Obverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Obverse description : Tête stylisée à gauche, l'œil et l'oreille marqués et un motif enroulé en guise de buste ; une accolade devant la bouche.

Reverse


Reverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Reverse description : Cheval passant à gauche, une ligne courbe partant de sa bouche et rejoignant une sorte de grènetis, un annelet perlé au-dessus de la croupe.

Commentary


Cette drachme est exactement du même type que le S. 455 qui est frappé sur un tout petit flan alors que cet exemplaire est particulièrement complet. Il est intéressant de noter que le listel du revers est doublé d’un grènetis extérieur.
Les monnaies de cette série ont habituellement un avers très incomplet alors que cette monnaie présente une effigie digne de certaine reconstitutions d’empreintes !.

Ruteni (Rodez Region)

(First century BC)

Neighbors Arverni of Cadurques and Gabales their territory corresponded to former Rouergue (Aveyron current) north of the Tarn, whose course was the border with the province of Narbonne. Ruteni allies of the Arverni, had participated in the operations that led to the defeat of Bituitus king of the Arverni in 121 BC and the creation of the province of Narbonne. On this occasion, Ruteni were found cut in half, following the natural border of the Tarn. Active in the coalition against the Romans in 52 BC, they provided a contingent of 12,000 men to the army of relief. Sources: Caesar (Bg. I, 45, VII, 5, 64, 75 and 90).
