Commentary
Cette médaille a été décernée à Justin Girod-Chantrans (1750-1841). Né Girod de Chantrans, il abandonne sa particule après la Révolution. En 1802, il entame une carrière politique en étant élu député au Corps législatif avant de se consacrer uniquement aux sciences naturelles en 1810. Membre de la Société philomathique de Paris et de l’Académie des sciences, il est l’auteur de divers ouvrages dont “Voyage d'un Suisse dans différentes colonies d'Amérique pendant la dernière guerre (1785)”.
