Obverse description : Buste radié, drapé et cuirassé de Postume à droite, vu de trois quarts en avant (A).
Obverse translation : “Imperator Cæsar Cassianius Latinius Postumus Pius Felix Augustus”, (L’empereur césar Cassianus Latinius Postume pieux heureux auguste).

Reverse


Reverse legend : VIC[TO-RI]A AVG// S C.
Reverse description : Postume, Mars ou Virtus debout à droite, casqué, vêtu militairement, tenant une haste de la main droite et appuyé sur son bouclier de la main gauche ; derrière, un trophée d’armes avec deux captifs assis dos à dos de chaque côté du trophée.
Reverse translation : “Victoria Augusti”, (La victoire de l’auguste).

Postume seizes the purple by eliminating Salonin, son of Gallien, of whom he had custody. He reigns over Gaul, Brittany and Spain. Did Postume toy with the idea of conquering the Roman Empire? Gallien, twice, will try to reconquer the "pars occidentalis" of the Empire, without success. Postume will remain in power for nine years, before perishing assassinated for having refused the sack of Mainz, a city which supported Lélien.
