Commentary

Poids léger. Imitation.
Lightweight. Imitation. Type 3 ribbons. Pteryges invisible under the paludamentum. This type is actually rarer than general works suggest. The copy in Paul-Francis Jacquier's catalog 32, no. 459, was offered at €800 and did not present a relevant die identity.

Historical background

POSTUMUS

(06-07/260-06/269)

Postume seizes the purple by eliminating Salonin, son of Gallien, of whom he had custody. He reigns over Gaul, Brittany and Spain. Did Postume toy with the idea of conquering the Roman Empire? Gallien, twice, will try to reconquer the "pars occidentalis" of the Empire, without success. Postume will remain in power for nine years, before perishing assassinated for having refused the sack of Mainz, a city which supported Lélien.
