Historical background

Mary II (1819-1851) is the daughter of Pedro IV of Portugal and I of Brazil (1798-1834). She succeeded his uncle Miguel (1802-1866) who abdicated in his favor in 1834. In fact, his father never actually reigned in Portugal, staying in Brazil. She married twice. Her second marriage, she had Pierre V, who succeeded him in 1853.
