Cet exemplaire, de forme rectangle arrondi, permet de placer une monnaie 20 francs Or (diamètre : 22,5 mm) et une monnaie de 10 francs or (20 mm)
Les emplacements pour les pièces sont fait d’une fleur orné de petits points.
On note divers poinçons : un losange et une tête de sanglier sur l’anneau de suspension et deux autres sur la bélière. On retrouve de nouveau le poinçon tête de sanglier sur les rebords des emplacements pour les monnaies.
Dimensions without bail: 50 x 30 mm. This rectangular coin holder, with its rounded shape, accommodates a 20-franc gold coin (22.5 mm diameter) and a 10-franc gold coin (20 mm diameter). The coin slots are decorated with a flower motif adorned with small dots. Several hallmarks are present: a lozenge and a boar's head on the suspension ring, and two more on the bail. The boar's head hallmark is also found on the edges of the coin slots.

From the Middle Ages until the middle of the 19th century, deniers, écus, and then the first francs and centimes, were carried in purses, alms pouches, or small leather change purses, often attached to the belt. When, in the second half of the 19th century, the Second Empire put into circulation more than one hundred million 20-franc gold coins minted with the image of Louis Napoleon III, it was necessary to create a safe and practical system for storing and individually transporting these precious coins. The craftsmen imagined the manufacture of a sort of coin box, which took the name of coin box, then gold holder, and quickly transformed into Louis holder, the first name of the Emperor, but also a reminder of the first gold Louis created at the end of the reign of Louis XIII in 1641.
