Dimensions : 53,5*28,5 mm (Sans la bélière) (épaisseur : 17 mm)

Cet exemplaire, de forme ovale s’ouvre et permet de placer un Louis d’or (diamètre : 22,5 mm) et une pièce de 10 francs or (20 mm). Le modèle est fait de métal ferreux (fer noirci).

Les emplacements pour les pièces sont cuivrés, ornés de lignes irradiant depuis le centre, formant un motif de rosaces. On lit la mention METAL DORE sur le rebord de la 20 francs or. L’intérieur du couvercle est lisse et présente le chiffre “2”.
Dimensions: 53.5 x 28.5 mm (excluding the bail) (thickness: 17 mm). This oval-shaped coin holder opens to hold a Louis d'or (diameter: 22.5 mm) and a 10-franc gold coin (20 mm). The coin is made of ferrous metal (blackened iron). The coin slots are copper-plated and decorated with lines radiating from the center, forming a rosette pattern. The inscription \\\"METAL DORE\\\" (gilded metal) is visible on the rim of the 20-franc gold coin. The inside of the lid is smooth and bears the number \\\"2\\\".

From the Middle Ages until the middle of the 19th century, deniers, écus, and then the first francs and centimes, were carried in purses, alms pouches, or small leather change purses, often attached to the belt. When, in the second half of the 19th century, the Second Empire put into circulation more than one hundred million 20-franc gold coins minted with the image of Louis Napoleon III, it was necessary to create a safe and practical system for storing and individually transporting these precious coins. The craftsmen imagined the manufacture of a sort of coin box, which took the name of coin box, then gold holder, and quickly transformed into Louis holder, the first name of the Emperor, but also a reminder of the first gold Louis created at the end of the reign of Louis XIII in 1641.
