Historical background

Plautilla

(211) Publia Fulvia Plautilla

Augusta (202-205)

Plautilla was the daughter of the praetorian prefect, Plautianus, the friend and confidant of Septimius Severus. Caracalla married the daughter of the praetorian prefect in 202 at the request of his father. Caracalla did not get along with his wife. Plautianus was removed by Septimius Severus in 205 and Plautilla relegated to Lipari Islands, where it was finally assassinated in 211.
