Reverse description : Allégorie de l’épouse, assise, tenant rameau d’olivier et épée, on remarquera et on l’identifie donc au maillet qui se trouve à son pied, à côté du lion héraldique de son mari .

Reverse translation : Le maillet de Mailly sera fort avec le lion de Roucy.

Commentary

Ce jeton a été frappé à l’occasion du mariage de Louis de Roussi et de Claude de Mailly. La lecture définitive de la légende de revers qui n’est ni MALLET comme le dit Feuardent ni en MALI.FI comme le disent Florange et Corre mais MALLEI (maillet, arme parlante de Claude de Mailly).
L’attribution de Corre à l’Ile de France est fautive, le jeton relève de la Picardie, Sissone étant à vingt kilomètres de Laon.

This token was struck on the occasion of the marriage of Louis de Roussi and Claude de Mailly. The definitive reading of the reverse legend is neither MALLET as Feuardent says nor in MALI.FI as Florange and Corre say but MALLEI (mallet, speaking weapon of Claude de Mailly). The attribution of Corre to the Ile de France is incorrect, the token relates to Picardy, Sissone being twenty kilometers from Laon.
