The federal coinage began in the 5th century BC and ended in 346 BC, the date of the end of the Third Sacred War (357-346 BC), marking the hegemony of Philip II on the region with the direction of the Amphictyonia of Delphi. The region, mountainous and poor, was dedicated to Artemis, goddess of the hunt.
