Exemplaire de qualité exceptionnelle pour ce type sur un petit flan irrégulier bien centré des deux côtés, court sur la légende de revers. Très joli droit. Revers bien venu à la frappe. Jolie patine de collection ancienne avec des reflets dorés. Conserve la plus grande partie de son brillant de frappe et de son coupant d’origine

PHOENICIA - ARADOS

(3rd - 1st century BC)

Arados had entered the Seleucid orbit after the battle of Ipsos in 301 BC. The city emancipated itself from this tutelage in 259 BC. Arados then dates its coins from this new era. Under the reign of Alexandre I Bala, it destroyed Marathus, its neighbor and old enemy. From this date, the city issued a very important civic coinage (137-45 AC.) which was to last until the Caesarean period..
