Obverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Obverse description : Le Grand Roi barbu, en archer mélophore, à demi-agenouillé à droite, coiffé de la cidaris, surmontée de cinq dents, vêtu de la candys, tenant une lance de la main droite et un arc de la gauche.


Reverse description : Carré creux informe.


Poids léger. Exemplaire normalement attribué plutôt à Xerxès Ier (486-465 avant J.-C.). Archer à la barbe longue.

PERSIA - UNITED Achaemenid

(Ve - fourth century BC)

Achaemenid dynasty will last two centuries (559-330 AC). Lasting impression and Asia Minor. Cyrus, the founder, captured Babylon and Lydia, Croesus. His son Cambyses conquered Egypt in 525 BC Darius succeeded him (521-486 AC.) And initiates the Greco-Persians Wars against Asia Minor revolted and against Athens which had supported the insurgents. He was defeated at Marathon in 490 AC. His son Xerxes (486-465 AC). Continues its policy, but crashed at Salamis and at Plataea. This is the end of hegemonic Persian dream. The dynasty died out with Codoman Darius III (339-330 AC.) Who is beaten by Alexander which goes for three centuries impose Hellenism to India.
