NETHERLANDS - UNITED PROVINCES (1581-1795)

The United Provinces is the name that took the seven northern provinces of predominantly Calvinist Seventeen Provinces Spanish Netherlands from 1579 to 1795. These provinces concluded January 23, 1579 the Union of Utrecht devoting their secession from the Spanish crown. It was not until July 26, 1581, the Hague Act, they really constitute State. Spain recognizes the independence of the United Provinces by the Treaty of Münster (May 1648). In 1795, the creation of the Batavian Republic marks the end of the United Provinces.
