Très bel exemplaire, frappé sur un flan un peu court et irrégulier mais avec les types de droit et de revers complets et de frappe vigoureuse. Patine vert foncé et brillante, bien homogène

Obverse description : Tête à gauche, les cheveux entourés d'un cordon perlé terminé par une volute sur la nuque, deux croissants devant le visage et un annelet pointé sous le menton.
Reverse
Reverse legend : VIIRICI.
Reverse description : Cheval libre galopant à gauche, un annelet pointé sous la queue ; une ancre entre les jambes.
Commentary
La classe II est bien reconnaissable avec la tête à gauche, mais deux croissants évidés remplacent l’épi de la classe I. Au revers, l’ancre fait son apparition entre les jambes du cheval et sera conservée sur les classes III et IV.
Cet exemplaire a un avers particulièrement net avec les deux croissant bien visibles et une belle ancre complète au revers avec les deux petits annelets pointés dans le champ.
Class II is clearly recognizable with the head on the left, but two hollowed crescents replace the ear of Class I. On the reverse, the anchor appears between the horse's legs and will be retained on Classes III and IV. This example has a particularly clear obverse with the two crescents clearly visible and a beautiful complete anchor on the reverse with the two small ringlets pointed in the field

GALLIA BELGICA PAGUS CATUSLUGI - Sanctuary of BOIS L'ABBÉ (Seine-Maritime)

Already in 1977, S. Scheers evoked the idea of a coinage of Pagus for the type VIIRICIVS (op. cit.p.129-130) which recalls the finds of the sanctuary of Bois l'Abbé in Eu (Seine-Maritime) (LPD. p.32-45) where 161 pieces of the 4 classes were discovered and analyzed. These coins, found in large quantities, doubtless constituted cash with a regional vocation (LPD. 1984, p. 65-92). A plaque found on the spot in 1965, near the theater evokes a pagus Catuslugi already mentioned by Pliny (HN. IV, 31).
