Commentary

Le monnayage du Perche serait tardif. D'après A. Blanchet, il ne commencerait pas avant 1195. D. Legros signale que le trésor de Nogent-le-Rotrou (Dy.I/239), enfoui vers 1150, ne contenait pas de monnaie du Perche, tandis que le trésor de Massay (Dy.I/209), enfoui vers 1160, aurait contenu une obole du Perche que ne mentionne pas l'inventaire de J. Duplessy. Le monnayage débuterait sous Rotrou III (1144-1191). C'est la composition du droit, qui se rencontre aussi sur le monnayage de Chartres, Châteaudun ou Blois dans le premier quart du XIIIe siècle, qui daterait les monnaies du Perche et les fait attribuer par Legros à Thomas ou à Guillaume, son oncle, qui était évêque de Châlons-sur-Marne..
