Historical background

NIVERNAIS - COUNTY OF NEVERS - COINAGE IMMOBILIZED IN THE NAME OF LOUIS IV TRANSMARINUS

(960-1050)

Son of Charles III the Simple, born in 921, Louis IV was under the rule of Hugh the Great, Duke of Île-de-France (936-954), the true holder of power. Louis dies two years before his rival. Nevers was not normally part of the royal domain and was emancipated from the end of the 10th century when Hugues Capet became king of France. Otte Guillaume (987-992) became the first count of Burgundy and fought against the first two Capetian kings. It was thought that it was the count who had imitated the type of Louis IV.
