Commentary
Although this type of small obol is similar to the coins attributed to the Nedenes, with the horse turning around, this specific type seemed unprecedented when issue 1500 of MONNAIES 38 was put up for sale. For this very particular style, we had not encountered any other example since MONNAIES 38, until a small lot of four coins kept in a private collection for years, presented in February 2017. The style is also reminiscent of certain Treveran coins. It is interesting to note stylistic and typological similarities between coins from the East (or South Germany) and the Southeast!
