Obverse translation : “Nero Claudius Cæsar Augustus Germanicus”, (Néron Claude césar auguste germanique).

Reverse legend : PON MA T-RP IMP P P//SC.
Reverse description : Rome, casquée et vêtue d'une tunique courte assise à gauche sur une cuirasse, le pied droit posé sur un casque, tenant de la main droite une couronne et la gauche posée sur le parazonium ; derrière la cuirasse, on distingue trois boucliers.
Reverse translation : “Pontifex Maximus Tribunicia Potestate Imperator Pater Patriæ”, (grand pontife revêtu de la puissance tribunitienne empereur père de la patrie).

NERO

(13/10/54-9/06/68)

The monetary reform of 64 made it possible to restore the finances of the state while making the inhabitants of the Empire bear the cost of these. This year 64 is marked by the great fire of Rome and its consequences, including the persecution against the Christians of the city. The following year, it is the discovery of the conspiracy of Pison, the death of Seneca and Lucain. In 66, Tiridates was enthroned King of Armenia in Rome. Nero then goes to Greece where he performs on stage and proclaims "The freedom of Greece". The excesses of the emperor cause at the beginning of the year 68 a wave of discontent which culminates with the revolt of Vindex in Gaule, Galba and Otho in Spain. Nero is declared a public enemy by the Senate. He committed suicide on June 9 so as not to fall alive into the hands of his enemies..
