The monetary reform of 64 made it possible to restore the finances of the state while making the inhabitants of the Empire bear the cost of these. This year 64 is marked by the great fire of Rome and its consequences, including the persecution against the Christians of the city. Nero is declared a public enemy by the Senate. He committed suicide on June 9 so as not to fall alive into the hands of his enemies..
