Reverse description : Cheval androcéphale galopant à droite conduit par un aurige levant la main gauche et tenant les rênes de la droite ; entre les jambes du cheval, hippophore.

Commentary

L'aurige à la main disproportionnée n'est pas inconnu par ailleurs (voir les articles de D. Hollard mentionnant l'adjectif Lamhfháda « longue main » attribué à Lugh). Les quarts des Namnètes peuvent être distingués en deux catégories ; la première en bon alliage jaune (très rare) et la seconde en électrum très cuivreux proche du billon (largement majoritaire). Avec ce métal noble et l'esse devant le front, ce quart correspond au DT.2195 (= BnF 6725) de la série 308A « en bon or »

The charioteer with a disproportionate hand is not unknown elsewhere (see the articles by D. Hollard mentioning the adjective Lamhfháda “long hand” attributed to Lugh). The quarters of the Namnetes can be distinguished into two categories; the first in good yellow alloy (very rare) and the second in very coppery electrum close to the ridge (largely the majority). With this noble metal and the esse in front of the front, this quarter corresponds to the DT.2195 (= BnF 6725) of the 308A series “in good gold”
