Fondée le 11 avril 1834, notre société reçut le nom d'Harmonie Municipale des Sapeurs-Pompiers. Son premier chef fut M. Louis PRINTEMPS.
Trois ans plus tard, en 1837, la société remportait, à Armentières, ses premiers succés. Ensuite, sous la direction des chefs qui se succédèrent :
MM. SIMONI, BENARD, BOURELLE, BRISY, elle put continuer une ascension rapide.
En 1846, au concours de DOUAI, ses 77 musiciens remportaient tous les premiers prix.
Le 20 juin 1853, au concours de FONTAINEBLEAU, elle triomphe de la musique de Saxe, dirigée par M. MOOHR, chef des Guides de l'Empereur.
Un arrêté du Ministre de l'Intérieur, en date du 9 février 1877, décide alors que la musique ne compterait plus dans l'effectif du Bataillon des Sapeurs Pompiers et que son chef aurait désormais le grade de Lieutenant.
M. BRISY souffrant en 1912, la direction fut confiée à M. Paul LAIGRE.
Puis ce fut la guerre de 1914.
Enfin sonna l'heure de la délivrance. Le jour même de l'entrée des alliés à LILLE, à quinze heures, dans la cour d'honneur de la Préfecture, l'Harmonie Municipale, dirigée par Paul LAIGRE, exécutait "La Marseillaise" devant une foule en délire. Le lendemain, l'Harmonie se faisait encore entendre à l'occasion de la réception du Général BIRWOOD qui avait délivré LILLE à la tête des troupes britanniques.
Le samedi 19 octobre, à 9 heures du matin, M. Georges CLEMENCEAU exprimait à M. le Préfet du Nord sa satisfaction après l'audition de notre musique : La première, disait-il, qu'il ait entendue en pays reconquis.
Par arrêté du Maire de Lille, en date du 29 décembre 1923, elle voit confirmer son titre de "Musique Municipale" de façon officielle à compter du 1er janvier 1924.
Monsieur Paul LAIGRE, arrivé à l'âge de la retraite en 1935, la direction est confiée pendant quelques mois à M. Charles PORTEBOIS, Sous-Chef jusqu'à l'arrivée de M. Ferdinand CAPELLE, nommé chef en 1936.
Notons que, bien qu’il s’agisse sans discussion d’un coin inspiré de celui qui était signé A. LECOMTE À LILLE, ce jeton n’en porte plus la signature.

The next day, the Harmony was still heard at the reception of General BIRWOOD who had liberated LILLE at the head of the British troops..
On Saturday, October 19, at 9 a.m., Mr.. Georges CLEMENCEAU expressed to M. the Prefect of the North his satisfaction after hearing our music: The first, he said, that he had heard in reconquered country.
By decree of the Mayor of Lille, dated December 29, 1923, its title of \\\"Municipal Music\\\" was officially confirmed as of January 1, 1924..
Mr. Paul LAIGRE, having reached retirement age in 1935, the management was entrusted for a few months to Mr.. Charles PORTEBOIS, Sous-Chef until the arrival of M. Ferdinand CAPELLE, appointed conductor in 1936.
