De nombreux comptoirs arabes et indiens existaient au Mozambique avant les expéditions de Vasco de Gama en 1498 puis de Lourenço Marques en1544. Ces derniers installèrent des comptoirs et construisirent des forts. La colonisation portugaise durera cinq siècles et comme dans tous les pays de l’Afrique lusophone, après une longue guerre coloniale, le Mozambique devient indépendante après la “Révolution des Oeillets”, indépendance proclamée de 25 juin 1975..
