Historical background

PSEUDO-MINT IN THE NAME OF IMPERIAL JUSTINIAN

(Sixth century)

Many triens mimic the type of imperial coins of Justinian I (527-565). Traditionally those winning profile are attributed to the Visigoths and Burgundians, the victory of those facing the Ostrogoths. The pseudo-imperial series attributed to the Visigoths are dated to 417-507 and 507-580 Gaul for Spain.
