Obverse description : Buste consulaire casqué, diadémé avec pendilia de Maurice Tibère de face, tenant la mappa de la main droite et un scipio de la main gauche ; le tout dans une couronne.
Obverse translation : “Domino Nostro Maurici Tiberio Perpetuo Augusto”, (À notre seigneur Maurice Tibère perpétuel auguste).

Poids léger. Au droit, le grènetis prend la forme d’une couronne. Traces de surfrappe au revers. Ce type n’est recensé que pour la dernière année de règne de Maurice Tibère pour deux officines A ou B.

MAURICIUS TIBERIUS

Maurice succeeded his father-in-law Tiberius II. After great victories over the Sassanids, he suffered many setbacks in the Balkans and could not prevent the installation of the Slavs and Avars. A military plot overthrew him in 602. He was assassinated while trying to take refuge with Chosroes II.
