Commentary
La légende du droit est proche de DN MAVRICIVS PPA utilisée dans les ateliers du sud de la France et faisant référence à Maurice Tibère (582-602). Cet exemplaire est postérieur à Maurice Tibère et doit être classé dans le monnayage pseudo-impérial. Ce type monétaire doit être attribué à Valence en raison des lettres VA. Quatre exemplaires de ce triens sont connus.

Historical background
MAURICE TIBERIUS
(08/13/582-11/22/602)
Maurice succeeded his father-in-law Tiberius II. After great victories over the Sassanids, he suffered many setbacks in the Balkans and could not prevent the installation of the Slavs and Avars. A military plot overthrew him in 602. He was assassinated while trying to take refuge with Chosroes II.
