Commentary

On pourrait supposer que ce jeton est en réalité en métal argenté mais compte tenu de son degré d’usure, un métal cuivreux sous-jacent aurait dû apparaître depuis longtemps et il semble bien que ce soit de l’argent pur.

Historical background

MARIE-THÉRÈSE D'AUTRICHE

Marie Thérèse (1638-1683) is the daughter of Philippe IV of Spain and Elisabeth of France, the daughter of Henri IV and Marie de Médicis. She was born in 1638, like her cousin the King, to whom she was engaged following the Treaty of the Pyrenees of November 7, 1659. She married him on June 9, 1660 in Saint-Jean-de-Luz and had six children , of which only one survived, Louis, the Grand Dauphin (1661-1711). She died on July 30, 1683. Louis XIV secretly remarried in second marriage with the Marquise de Maintenon in 1683 (1638-1719).
