Historical background

MARCIA

(88 BC)

Caius Marcius Censorinus must be identified with one of Marius' followers, more precisely the one who accuses Sylla of embezzlement on his return from the East. As one of the leaders of the Marianist party, he entered Rome with Marius and Cinna in 87 BC and became one of the main instigators of the massacres that followed. Faithful to the memory of Marius, he fought Sylla, but was taken prisoner at the Battle of Porte Colline in 82 BC and executed.
