Commentary


Cet exemplaire présente la particularité d’être frappé sur un étalon rhodien. L’exemplaire de la collection Alpha Bank n° 1132, pl. LIII est frappé sur un étalon attique (groupe IV, 173-172/171 avant J.-C.). L’exemplaire de l’Ashmolean Museum d’Oxford (n° 3276, pl. LXVII) est de poids rhodien. Trace de cassure de coin visible au droit devant le visage.

MACEDONIA - KINGDOM OF MACEDONIA - PERSÉE

(179-168 BC)

Perseus, the eldest son of Philip V (221-179 AC.), Succeeded his father and was the last king of Macedonia. After a promising beginning of the reign, Perseus came into conflict with the Romans, who, since the battle of Cynoscephalae in 197 BC, controlled Greece. The conflict with the Macedonians was brief but violent. The Romans invaded Macedonia and crushed Perseus double battle of Pydna in 168 BC Conquered by Paul-Émile, Perseus was taken to Rome with his two son, participated in its Triomphe winner and died two years later captive in Italy (see the denier of the people Æmilia No. 10, struck in 62 BC and which commemorates this event).
