Commentary
.
Apparently, our hero is best known for completely different aspects of his work, such as permanent secretary of the Academy of Lyon and bibliomaniac.. Let's give the floor to the site le-bibliomane. blogspot: Bollioud-Mermet was born in Lyon on February 15, 1709, into a family of magistrates, and died in 1793, permanent secretary of the Academy of Lyon, of which he had been named a member on April 12, 1736.. He published: On the Corruption of Taste in French Music… Lyon, 1746, in-16. — On Bibliomania (anonymous). The Hague, 1761, in-8°. — Discourse on Emulation. Paris, 1763, in-8°. — Essay on Reading (anonymous). Amsterdam and Lyon, 1765, in-8°. —Renovation of literary vows, fiftieth-century speech printed in the Journal de Lyon of May 10, 1786. The Archives of the Academy of Lyon also contain the following manuscripts: Discourse on the Nine in the productions of genius, 1742; two speeches from the Public Assemblies of the Academy, 1743; The Athenaeum of Lyon reestablished, or history of the Academy of Lyon; Praise of M. Dugas de Quinsonnas, 1768; Praise of André Clapisson, 1770; On Vocal Music, verses to Madame de Beauharnais. Bollioud-Mermet's entire life is summed up in his duties as permanent secretary of the Academy of Lyon, duties to which he owed the honor of receiving two letters from Voltaire, one in 1746, the other in 1759.
